Objective assignment will meet:


Describe the pathophysiology, signs and symptoms, diagnostic procedures, treatment, and nursing care of various type of congenital heart disease.


Rationale for assignment:


The students struggle to understand the congenital heart defects. I have done the lecture on congenital heart defects six times now, when the students are in class about 40% begin to understand the different defects. On the examination that evaluated students learning – the student’s scores on this portion of the test range 60-70%. As an instructor, I do not think this is an acceptable level of comprehension. I realize, I will never have 100% but I am aiming to increase comprehension / learning to 85%.

Wiki site to discuss the heart defects

Instructions students will need to use technology:

1. View each web site. The web sites explain each defect in a little different way. Focus on the web site that you understand the best.
2. After viewing the web site complete the Wiki worksheet on cardiac defects. You will need to cut and paste a picture of each of the defects into your worksheet.
3. Bring your completed worksheet to class on Wednesday.
4. You will be placed into a group:
   1. Each group will present on one of the four defects
   2. Each group will have 15 minutes to prepare their presentation

Students will need to view the various web sites on congenital cardiac defects. After viewing the web sites they will need to complete the worksheet in Wiki.

Each group will be assigned one of the four groups of cardiac defects listed below. The group will be presenting the assigned defects to the class on Wednesday.
